we went and saw maps and atlases the other day and it was definitely one of the best shows i have ever seen. it was absolutely phenomenal. however you spell that word.

anyways, they stayed at my friend patricks house, and i went to make them breakfast in the morning, but it just turned into us going to get brunch together. it was pretty sweet.

austin city limits festival is this weekend which im pretty excited about, laura and i might be getting free wristbands from my brothers friend, but if not apparently, the weekend of all the bands play shows in town and its pretty easy to catch bands you want to see.

if we do go, i really want to see dr dog and dirty projectors, and beach house, and i dont even know, more bands.

shortly after that is fun fun fun fest, which is pretty exciting too.

i dont know, things are really awesome right now.

time to go search for a better job.

hey so it looks like everyone thats anyone is still using livejournal. thats good, i was thinking for some reason that no one used it anymore.

so anyways, now that ive been in austin for almost 4 weeks, i think i am starting to get a pretty good feel for the town.

its a pretty large city, so theres definitely a wide variety of people, but overall there are a lot of really nice people, and a lot of really interesting people.

there is a lot of shitty live music every night of the week, but also, if you just do a little research, like look in the Chronicle or on do512.com there is good live music basically every single night.

there are a lot of bars, not enough breweries for my taste, but enough cool bars to almost make up for it.

the weather is amazing. i got used to the dry heat really quick. its started to cool down a little bit, its down to like the high eighties this week, and i sort of just miss the hotter days.

there really is no attitude that goes with being down here except that everyone really likes it here.
there are a lot of people from all around the country here that ended up down here just because they like it, and a lot of people from around texas that basically came to austin to get away from texas. of course, in such a large city thats a pretty large generalization.

overall its really cool so far, not to say that i dont really miss everyone in michigan...

so i got a new job at this place called Beagle Brain. We fix computers. The owner is a vegan and everything in the store is vegan. there is a chocolate lab named walter that comes to work everyday. were in a really cool location downtown. its really such a cool place, its hard to explain it without just seeing it. i am just really loving my job.

also, i have been jamming with a drummer and a bass player and theyre super cool guys.

so yeah, im pretty happy to have my new job and some people to play music with. i realized after we jammed tonight that the one guy was indeed a member of bear vs shark, which i thought was pretty funny/sweet. also still working on a lot more of my solo music. ethan and i have been discussing a split, and i have around 8 songs finished that just need live (non-virtual) tracks added. laura is almost done with the book, which is looking amazing. the show is sometime in April, around the 18th or something. also, i have been discussing a video project with JACK. apparently its totally free to use the public television studio here in ann arbor. Really really excited about that.

we went to chicago for 4 days and had fantastic time
it was free museum month, so we went to 5 museums, all of which were really sweet

other than chicago, i have put lots and lots of time into music lately

today was funny, after i got home from school laura and i took the bus to trader joes. the bus stop dropped us off a short little walk from TJ's and we went in and bought shit. i bought $92 worth of groceries, probably about 70-80 lbs worth and laura bought almost as much.
so then we walked back out and waited for the bus, and then got of the bus and walked about ten blocks with like 130 lbs of groceries collectively.

so anyways, tomorrow im going to school 6 hours early to watch my favorite instructor teach a class im not in because hes such a good instructor.

really miss my parents right now.
derek and i wrote some music.
i need to find some skizz.

why cant i keep my room clean? how can i learn to keep it clean?

back to work at papa johns. tonight is my first night of real work. i went out flyering yesterday. going to mahek indian cuisine before work to quit and hopefully get my twenty something dollar paycheck, which is actually just a personal check. sucks to quit because i like the job, but i need more hours and ive been telling them that since I started.

holidays were really amazing. seeing some friends i hadnt seen in a long time for extended periods was really just incredible.

been just hanging out a lot with laura and kasey, helping laura work on her project. its really awesome having kasey here, its awesome to have close friends you can see everyday, and that seem to always have something encouraging to offer. also really glad i get to see derek a reasonable amount now that he's back in town.

im really loving this town, and continuing to realize after over eight months of dating laura how amazing of a girl she is, and how awesome it is to have a friend like her that i can spend so much of my time with.

life is about to get busy, back to work at papa johns and starting classes at WCC. im pretty excited for all of my classes. been doing some reading lately just about some basic A+ computer stuff and also gotten really interested in linux.
was talking to my brother dj last night, who is now a network administrator in LA, and it was really awesome just having a big geek talk with him. hes excited that we have something new in common. really miss him a lot, but its weird because he doesnt feel so far away, and im just happy for him. sort of how i feel about dave and noah too.

sometimes you just sit back and look at all of your friends and the things you have going on and you just realize how fortunate you are. at least thats what is going on with me right now, and its really awesome.

been picking my guitar up again lately, which feels really good and i need to not stop doing.
also, kasey and i remodeled the living room and cleaned up the kitchen. its kewl. im only like a third done with cleaning/reorganizing my bedroom, which feels nice, but i think im going to work on right now.

so i hardly work at all, yet i dont really do much either because im so incredibly broke and i spend most of my time job hunting.

the good news is that ive had numerous interviews at places and ive been offered about 4 different positions at places starting in mid-January when i start classes.

the bad news is i desperately need a full time job right now and im not even sure if ill be able to make rent this month let alone go see any of my friends that will actually be around or have any money to buy my friends family or my girlfriend Christmas gifts because im super broke. really cool since i was broke for lauras birthday also.

whatever, its not a big deal at all, im just not happy with this weather and the fact that my computer is broke and really missing everyone.

im going to try pretty hard to come up and visit everyone at some point. i know i caught word of that speakeasy party or whatever. where is that at?

and there is one more thing i want to mention:
next week, probably next weekend or something some time, kasey and i want to have a little get together/party at our house. our roomates are all gone except two and we dont think theyll mind. not sure what day yet, but it would be really awesome if you lil' dickwads came out.

so i work like one day a week right now, just really wanting to start classes. been trying to find a job where i can work closer to full time, even like meijer or kroger, but havent had much luck yet. if i had better hours work would be cool. the food is great and free, and being a server is busy, but the time goes by fast.

i feel like i really need to get a laptop - was planning on waiting until income tax return, but i may get one with student loan money, just feel like it would be pretty good to have since im taking all IT classes.

i found a new band that im really really into, and its perfect timing for winter.

in result ive just resorted to writing lots of stuff on tabit, and im pretty happy with how its coming out. all very playable stuff.

sort of annoyed, i was looking forward to doing a radio show at washtenaw community college, but they changed it so that you have to be in their radio program to use it now.

anyways, i know this entry is sort of boring, but winter is taking over my mind and im sure there will be a lot of more interesting stuff coming up.

making some new friends down here, but its not quite the same, really miss everyone.

i just got home
and heard some girl crying
so i walk upstairs and
my one roomate that isnt supposed to drink by law
and cant even be out of his room when there is open alcohol in the house
really nice clean cut super busy grad student
is passed out on the floor
and crying girl is sitting over him freaking out
he was pretty much not even as bad as mikey drunk
but still pretty drunk
so i helped him into his bed and she was trying to give him coffee
i told her that he should probably have water, not coffee.
she said he told her he had been drinking since sunday
so i look at him and say larry whats goin on man, youre not supposed to drink

and he just looks at me really aware and says
'it is truly, truly better to be fucked up. truly'

so i didnt really say much back, just told him he needs to sober up and hell be alright.
